Description
This is Ouwe Jan the mascotte of the bird rescue center NOP in Veldhoven, Holland.
He is a bird with a very sad history....
While he was young, kids poked one of his eyes out with a pencil and his owner locked him up in the basement of her cafe...
He was nearly dead when he was rescued by the owner of the NOP and became so the first rescued bird of the 4000 they already have.
I loved the NOP and have volunteered there for 2 years and now visit on a weekly basis. I enjoy taking pictures of the birds and enjoying their chats with each other.
I really appreciate other individuals efforts there by giving every bird a new chance.
everyone who reads this... Please never buy a big parrot.. they live longer than you and it´s sad to see a parrot suffer when their owner died... Also lots of people don´t know how they get their parrot... most of them are captured in the wild and so the parrot is threatened with extinction.
One last thing, Enjoy the birds and the world around you, you can see the beauty everywhere ^^

People make me so sick, and angry sometimes. I'm glad places liket his exist. Thank you for spreading the word about parrot rescue, these birds shouldn't be being bred in captivity, they just live too long and people would just rather stick them in tiny cages for show instead of treating them like fellow living beings.
